By Air: Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa's leading carrier and a Star Alliance member, connects Ethiopia to over 90 cities worldwide - including London, Paris, New York, Dubai, Beijing, and Johannesburg. It also runs extensive domestic routes to Lalibela, Gondar, Axum, and Bahir Dar.

Overland Borders

Ethiopia can be reached by road from Kenya (Moyale), Sudan (Metema-Galabat), Djibouti, Eritrea (Zalambessa), and South Sudan (Pagak). A valid visa is required at most crossings - check entry requirements in advance.

By Rail from Djibouti

The modern Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway offers a comfortable and efficient way to travel between the two countries. Bus services between Djibouti and Ethiopia are also available for overland travelers.

Getting Around Inside Ethiopia

Once in the country, you have several options for moving between regions. Ethiopian Airlines offers frequent domestic flights to all major tourist hubs - the fastest way to cover the country's vast distances.

For those who prefer the road, long-distance luxury bus companies like Selam Bus and Sky Bus connect major cities with reliable and comfortable services. Minibuses are widely available and affordable but are better suited for shorter urban trips, while we provide private cars with drivers for all our tours.

For the most flexibility - particularly in remote areas like the Omo Valley - hiring a car with a driver is a popular choice among independent travelers and small groups.

Arriving at Bole International Airport

Bole International Airport is a modern, well-equipped facility with duty-free shops, restaurants, and currency exchange counters. Taxis and hotel shuttles provide easy onward connections into Addis Ababa. Make sure you have your visa, vaccination certificate if required, and any other entry documents ready on arrival.

Visa: Apply online via the official Ethiopian e-Visa portal, or obtain one on arrival at the airport if eligible.
Currency: The Ethiopian Birr (ETB) is the official currency. ATMs are widely available in cities; carry some cash for rural areas.
Health: A yellow fever vaccination certificate may be required depending on your route. Consult your doctor before traveling.
